The 3 Best Job Boards For Finding Tech Sales Jobs

So you’ve decided you want to get into tech sales, but where do you start? Where do you go to find tech sales jobs?

According to U.S. News, the best job search websites include Indeed, Glassdoor, SimplyHired, Google for Jobs, CareerBuilder, Monster, and a few others.

But we don’t recommend any of those. ❌

Why?

Because they’re not the best for tech sales jobs specifically.

The bigger job boards are more generalized. They also have job postings for plumbers, restaurant managers, and truck drivers. They aren’t the preferred job boards for tech companies that are hiring for sales positions.

For example, when we searched for “sales development representative” in “San Francisco, CA” on February 25, 2023, Glassdoor had 546 results and Indeed had 784 results. The #1 job board on our list had … [drum roll please] … 2,971 results for the exact same search.

We recommend these three job boards specifically for tech sales jobs:

  1. LinkedIn
  2. Y Combinator
  3. Wellfound (formerly AngelList Talent)

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is the #1 website we mentioned earlier that had 2,971 results for the search.

LinkedIn (acquired by Microsoft in 2016) is at the center of the tech world. It’s the first website that anybody in tech thinks of when it comes to jobs, recruiting, and networking.

When tech companies need to hire for a position, the first place they post it is on LinkedIn. LinkedIn Recruiter is a very common software that companies buy to do recruiting.

LinkedIn is really the only job board you need for your tech sales job search. There are enough job postings for you to send out thousands of applications.

Before you start sending out applications to tech sales jobs on LinkedIn, make sure your LinkedIn profile is fully optimized. At the very least, add a high-def professional headshot for your profile photo (no peace signs or sunglasses) and update your location to the city where you want to work.

Y Combinator

If you’re applying for your first job in tech sales, we recommend applying to big tech companies with formalized sales training programs. To find sales jobs at big tech companies, LinkedIn is your best bet.

However, if you’re having trouble getting offers at the big tech companies or you’d just rather work for a smaller company, then you might consider applying to startups.

Y Combinator is a startup accelerator. Twice a year, they invest $500,000 in each of a large number of startups. Some of the most successful startups of all time are YC companies, including Airbnb, Amplitude, Coinbase, DoorDash, Dropbox, Stripe, Instacart, Reddit, and so many others.

Y Combinator has their own job board and you can sort it specifically for sales jobs.

Keep in mind, these are startups—more risky, less structure, no training. On the other hand, you’ll get equity with more upside potential and you’ll have more autonomy.

Again, if it’s your first job in tech sales, we recommend working for a big company with a training program.

But if you just can’t resist the opportunity to be one of the earliest employees at what could become the next tech unicorn, then you should definitely submit your application to a few of the YC companies that are hiring for tech sales jobs.

Wellfound (formerly AngelList Talent)

AngelList started in 2010 as an “online introduction board for tech startups in need of seed funding.” In 2012, AngelList launched Jobs—a recruiting portal that would connect job candidates with startups in the AngelList network.

For a while, the recruiting portal was called AngelList Talent. Now it’s called Wellfound. The site boasts that it has 130K+ tech jobs and 6,000,000 matches made. You can sort specifically for sales jobs. It also has a feature called REMOTE that candidates can use to apply specifically to remote positions.

Similar to Y Combinator, AngelList (Wellfound) offers jobs at startups, so make sure you know what you’re signing up for.

Career pages on company websites

Using an online job board is faster because you can search for a specific job title in a specific city and scroll through a list of open positions and quickly send out a bunch of applications in a row.

Applying directly on the company’s website is slower, but it might be the best way if you’re really interested in one company in particular.

Also, not all companies post their positions on job boards. Or, they might post their position on one job board but not others. Therefore, if you want to be extra sure to submit applications to certain companies, go directly to the Careers pages on their websites. For example, here’s what Google’s Career page looks like.

Conclusion

If you want to work at a big tech company, apply on LinkedIn.

If you want to work at a startup, apply via Y Combinator or AngelList (Wellfound).

And remember, job boards aren’t the only places where you can submit job applications. You can also go directly to the company’s website and find their Careers page.

If you have a list of specific companies where you want to work, it might be easier to go directly to the company websites to submit your applications. And then you can still submit additional applications via job boards.
